Born from Miami’s vibrant energy and an instinctive curiosity to experiment, Sofia Mesa’s ceramic practice is ultimately an exploration of joy. Her work transforms raw earth into whimsical, sculptural forms, often drawing inspiration from the wildlife and natural world around her. Animals, plants, and organic forms become recurring elements in her work, though never as literal representations; instead, Mesa reimagines them through her own visual language, creating playful interpretations that feel familiar yet distinctly her own.

Mesa is drawn to contrast—the meeting of smooth, glass-like surfaces with the raw, tactile quality of clay; saturated greens interrupted by touches of white gold; and organic forms balanced by meticulous attention to detail. She approaches each piece as an experiment, allowing the material, color, and process to lead her toward unexpected results.
